OSHA AND FIRE SAFETY
As the federal government agency responsible for setting the national safety and health standards for workers, OSHA has established standards addressing each of the three key elements of fire safety:
1. fire prevention
2. the safe evacuation of the workplace in the event of fire, and
3. Protection of workers fighting fires or working around equipment for fire-repression.
These issues are addressed in 29 C.F.R. § 1910 through a variety of detailed OSHA rules applicable to the general industry (all businesses except construction, shipbuilding, and longshoring).
